From the Wedding Tip Series, providing a new piece of advice every Wednesday to help brides get the most out of their wedding photography. This Wednesday, we are proud to unveil tip eleven:

“Don’t Underestimate the Power of Reception Lighting”

As photographers, we sometimes like to be called “painters with light,” as light is the important element in any photograph. I know that you’re probably thinking: “but what about the background?!” Yes the background is important too, which we discussed in “Tip Seven,” but when it comes down to good light and a good background, I’ll choose the better light any day of the week.

That being said, while you are most definitely thinking about your centerpieces and all those gorgeous little details you plan to have at the reception, your reception lighting may or may not have even crossed your mind. Up-lighting your walls with one of your wedding colors (and I DO love color!) is an excellent way to really give your reception photos some extra bang for your buck. While your centerpieces probably wont make it into all of your photos of guests dancing/etc., the lighting you choose most certainly will, and the results will speak for themselves!
